Johnny On The Spot: Make no mistake about it. Roy Hodgson's Liverpool gave it their best shot tonight. Each time they were able to raise their game to a more combative tempo, they found themselves outboxed by the most solid, resilient looking City side in decades. Other than that, outside of one repeat shot goalmouth melee that was brilliantly dealt with by the superb Joe Hart and his defensive troops, Liverpool were utterly outplayed in all areas of the park...Under the cool, calm gaze of City owner His Highness Sheikh Mansour and City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Roberto Mancini started the game with SIX England Internationals in his starting XI and every single one of them was outstanding...James Milner, on this scintillating evidence is in a different class to the hapless Stephen Ireland when the Irishman was at his best. Milner's inclusion brought a balance and cohesiveness to City's midfield that has not been seen when in the top flight since 1977...All talk of the side needing to gel was dispensed with as only the dominant YaYa Toure and Milner of Mancio's 6 signings this summer started the game...The next game cannot come quick enough now for an ecstatic Eastlands faithful. They will know now, as did the uneasily watching Taggart, Moyes, Bruce, Dalglish and Reid that City now have a carefully built platform from which to go from strength to strength.

Reckon Micah is going to be awarded the second, slow motions suggest Carlos didn't touch it and Micah said in his Sky Sports interview that he'll claim it. Either way, top notch performance! Feel a bit for the Dippers but can't feel too bad, we suffered like that for years and may still suffer more yet before we reach our destiny. CTID.

solid performance and clinical when we needed to be. Outplayed and outclassed a reasonably strong side and stated our top 4 credentials for all to see.

Don't think anyone predicted 3-0 against Liverpool, myself included, yet we could have won by more. Superb performance, but don't let this performance fool you - yes we were good, at times very good - but we are still not the finished article, lord help the rest of the Premier League when we are!

For all the stick he gets, i was really impressed with Micah tonight. Especially in the first half he was solid. By far the best performance i've seen from him in a long time

Thanks 123spurs, I think the game against your boys helped a lot in regards to winning this game. It certainly highlighed the need for more attacking outlets and gave us the best defensive workout we could have hoped for!

Micah was very good but important to note he had no one to really defend against and that is where his problem lies. Against a good winger Micah will struggle but in a match like tonight's he will excel.

With Balotelli Boateng and Kolarov waiting in the wings one wonders what we are going to be capable of as the season progresses..
