| Johnny On The Spot: Expensive flop (copyright all football hacks) Edin Dzeko made it 8 goals in 4 games today as City routed Tottenham Hotspur with plenty left in the tank. This is a result which will rock many worlds. Not just in English but European football as Manchester City served notice that they mean business...Roberto Mancini chose to rest the livewire English trio Richards, Milner and Johnson at the start, but the high pressing, strong tempo, swift passing game that we witnessed reap 7 goals against Swansea and Bolton registered another 5 here in Spurs own back yard. Tottenham for their part started gamely but their defenders were rapidly reduced to paper kites in a windtunnel afforded no protection by a lightweight midfield that allowed Barry, Toure, Silva and Nasri (who the Spurs fans did all they could to motivate) to run riot...We debated in VMC City Chat this week that before too long The Blues' brilliant approach play would soon see a side battered, yet few would have predicted a 5-1 win at Spurs. How hollow the stick that City and particularly Mancini took when blooding his new look side in last season's opener in North London sounds now. Boring, boring City indeed...Nasri was exceptional and slotted into the side buzzing and fizzing as if he had been playing with Silva and Aguero all his life. Dzeko led the line superbly, the young striker providing a masterclass in finishing...The ultimate accolade that we can take out of this monster result comes from the home support who as it became apparant that City were ready to make a statement of intent began to shriek with some desperation "Where were you when you were shit!?" - That compliment in itself proves that the absolutely focused Mancio has his City juggernaut on the right track. Wigan, you are next. | ||||||||
