| MANCHESTER CITY CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND - Johnny On The Spot ...Astonishing. Truly astonishing. The watching world witnessed at the close of yet another stunning Manchester City fightback a rocking Etihad Stadium coming together with it's tightknit management team and squad in an outpouring of absolute ecstacy...The team's nervy approach was absolutely understandable considering the magnitude of what they were aiming to realise. It was almost, to the final minutes, their undoing but to a man, now legends, they shed blood sweat and tears to overcome a massed QPR defensive rearguard initially led by the disgrace that was their captain to mount a sustained never say die relentless wave of attacks. The statistics are amazing. This City side have evolved into a team that will not accept defeat, will never die...Sir Alex Ferguson spoke this week of what losing this title having fought so hard to almost touch it could do to City, but now the tables are firmly turned upon his own squad which stands at a crossroads, shellshocked by a Manchester power shift realised inside 4 years. The rags are condemned to a summer with only ghastly tartan tea-towel shirts to look forward to...The talk all season from many quarters, particularly the majority of football hacks has been of mercenaries and buying the league. As City's magnificent captain Vincent Kompany said tonight, the majority of his team have come from extremely poor backgrounds and their desire, and what this win meant to them today eclipsed all the nonsense endured. Already this is being described as the ultimate title win. God only knows where it will take us now, but Planet Blue is fuelled with immense self belief and the direction for this young squad, it's astute young manager and hungry fans is assuredly upwards and onwards. Savour it Blues, savour it. The launchpad is now built. We have ignition...and now...THAT Goal - Commentary courtesy Calm Cool and Collected Productions England's Number One Celebrations | ||||||||
